Wild boars roam Veria streets, raising safety concerns

On Saturday, 13 June 2026, a pack of about 14 wild boars was filmed moving in an organised line along Fotikonos street in the Prometheus area of Veria, Greece. Residents said the animals are increasingly seen in urban neighbourhoods, especially those bordering forested zones, and they forage for easy food such as garbage bins and abandoned waste.

The presence of the boars has sparked worries about driver and pedestrian safety and possible damage to property. One local remarked, “If things continue like this, soon Veria will talk about wild boars in the neighbourhood instead of stray dogs.” The phenomenon reflects a growing adaptation of the younger generations of boars to city life.
