Wild boars sighted in Rome amid African swine fever case in Riano

Wild boar sightings have been reported in the outskirts of Rome, including a group of five animals observed at a bus stop in Prima Porta. This follows ongoing challenges regarding the management of overpopulated wildlife in the capital's peripheral areas.

In the nearby municipality of Riano, authorities have established a red zone after a wild boar tested positive for African swine fever. The animal, believed to have been struck by a vehicle, was discovered on August 20. In response, Asl Roma 4 is conducting inspections and utilizing molecular dogs to search for further cases.

Authorities have issued recommendations for residents and visitors to mitigate the spread of the virus, including staying on marked trekking paths, keeping dogs on leashes, and disinfecting footwear and clothing after outdoor excursions.
