Wildfire breaks out in Kandili, Megara, Attica

A wildfire broke out on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in a forested area of Kandili, Megara, in the Attica region. The Greek Fire Service has deployed 75 firefighters, including three ground teams from the 1st EMODE, 26 vehicles, 4 aircraft, and 2 helicopters to combat the blaze. Local authorities are also providing water tankers to assist in the operation.

This incident follows a high-risk warning issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection on September 7, which placed several regions in Greece under category 4 fire risk. Affected areas included Attica, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Central Macedonia, Thessaly, Central Greece, Western Greece, Peloponnese, North Aegean, South Aegean, and Crete. Authorities have urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid activities that could spark fires, such as burning dry grass or using machinery that produces sparks.
