Wildfire continues on inaccessible slopes near Kranjska Gora

Firefighters are battling a wildfire on an inaccessible slope above Srednji Vrh in the Karavanke mountains, near Kranjska Gora. The fire, which covers an area of approximately one hectare, has been active since Friday.

Emergency response efforts include multiple volunteer fire departments from Bohinjska Bistrica, Srednja vas v Bohinju, Gozd Martuljek, and Kranjska Gora. To combat the fire in the difficult terrain, authorities are utilizing aerial support, including a Slovenian Armed Forces helicopter and three Air Tractor aircraft.

While the fire has been contained and is currently described as smoldering in several hotspots rather than spreading rapidly, drone surveillance confirmed that forest areas were reigniting. Authorities have also issued warnings regarding water scooping activities at Lake Bohinj to ensure safety during the firefighting operations.
