Wildfire in Spain's Costa Brava burns over 2,000 hectares, 400 firefighters deployed

A fast‑moving wildfire erupted in the Costa Brava region of northeastern Spain, threatening the Girona area of Bisbal d'Empordà. The blaze has consumed more than 2,000 hectares of mainly forested land and is being fought by roughly 400 firefighters supported by ten aerial units.

Authorities have urged residents and tourists to avoid the affected zone. Around 45,000 people have been asked to stay indoors, and about 150 children at a nearby summer camp are sheltering on site but remain safe. Officials suspect the fire started due to negligence; no injuries have been reported so far. The incident follows Spain’s severe wildfires last year, which burned nearly 400,000 hectares and caused eight deaths.
