Wildfire Threatens Homes in Oschiri, Sardinia

A wildfire broke out on the morning of 23 May 2026 on the outskirts of Oschiri in Gallura, Sardinia. The fire ignited in Mediterranean scrub and dry vegetation, quickly reaching heights of about four metres and sending dense smoke over nearby streets, including via Umberto Giordano, as it advanced toward residential areas.

Emergency crews responded rapidly, including the fire brigade, Carabinieri, volunteers from the Civil Protection, the local Barracelli unit and forest service personnel. The flames burned a limited area of scrub and pasture but did not damage houses, and the fire was extinguished after coordinated efforts. Investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the blaze, which occurred early in the fire season.

No injuries were reported, and authorities are completing cleanup operations while assessing the incident’s origin.
