Wildfires burn thousands of acres in US forest regions

Multiple wildfires are active in the United States, with significant acreage burned in both the Frijoles Fire and the Mile Post Fire.

The Frijoles Fire in the Santa Fe National Forest has burned 8,921 acres and is currently 12% contained. The fire, caused by lightning, has prompted various evacuation statuses in Santa Fe and Rio Arriba counties. Immediate evacuations have been ordered for individuals on Camino de Canon in Cundiyo, while other areas like Borrego Mesa and Nambe Pueblo Lake are under ‘Ready Status’. Authorities have also closed NM 503 between County Road 98 and State Road 76.

Meanwhile, the Mile Post Fire has burned 5,202 acres and reached 14% containment. Firefighters are working to protect the community of Hoopa and managing hazards along Highway 96. While cooler temperatures and higher humidity have helped moderate fire activity, crews continue to manage spot fires and strengthen retardant lines to prevent further spread.
