Wildfires cause property damage in Venezuela and threaten water supplies in Spain

In Ciudad Tavacare, Venezuela, municipal firefighters successfully extinguished a large vegetation fire near a PDVAL food distribution center. The blaze originated in dry brush and spread after coming into contact with decommissioned vehicles stored in the facility's yard. Firefighters performed direct attack maneuvers to prevent the flames from reaching residential buildings and critical food infrastructure. No serious injuries or major casualties were reported.

In Spain, experts are warning of long-term water supply threats following wildfires in the Peñas de Riglos area. Engineer Daniel Herrero noted that the loss of vegetation leaves terrain unprotected, causing subsequent rains to wash ash, soil, and organic matter into rivers and catchment areas. This sediment increase raises turbidity and alters water chemistry, potentially compromising the ability of local treatment plants to ensure potable water. In Atarés, fire damage has already destroyed 300 meters of piping and a water intake point.
