Balkan region faces widespread wildfires

Multiple regions across the Balkans are facing intense wildfire activity, requiring significant mobilization of emergency services. In Montenegro, firefighters in Nikšić have been working continuously for two months to combat active fires in Lukavica and Praga, with the Montenegrin Army providing assistance. Strong winds have complicated efforts by reigniting previously extinguished areas.

In Croatia, large-scale firefighting operations are underway on the island of Brač, involving hundreds of firefighters and aerial support from Canadair and Air Tractor aircraft. Slovenian firefighters from Postojna and Domžale are also participating in a knowledge transfer project to assist with remediation efforts on Brač.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, active fires are reported on Čvrsnica and in several locations across the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, including Prenj, Čapljina, and Mostar. Aerial support and local volunteer fire departments are engaged in containing the flames across these various municipalities.
