Wildfires impact Friuli Venezia Giulia region in Italy

Multiple wildfires are affecting the Friuli Venezia Giulia region in Italy, prompting an extensive emergency response. As of August 10, 2026, regional Civil Protection authorities are monitoring and managing approximately 15 to 19 fire sites across the provinces of Udine, Pordenone, Trieste, and Gorizia.

Significant operational efforts are concentrated on several active fronts, including Monte Palavierte in Illegio, Monte Amariana in Amaro, the former paper mill quarry in Duino, and areas between San Martino del Carso and Poggio Terza Armata. While some fires have been extinguished or brought under control, others remain in the monitoring or reclamation phases.

The regional response involves a coordinated deployment of Canadair aircraft from the national aerial fleet, Civil Protection helicopters, an Army helicopter, the Regional Forestry Corps, and numerous local volunteers. The region has been under a state of maximum wildfire danger since July 13 due to high temperatures, low precipitation, and dehydrated vegetation.
