Italy faces widespread wildfire emergencies across multiple regions

Multiple regions across Italy are facing severe wildfire emergencies, exacerbated by intense heat and dry vegetation during the Ferragosto holiday. In Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Carnia region remains in a critical state, particularly around Monte Amariana. The fire has forced the precautionary evacuation of Pissebus and necessitated the shutdown of high and medium voltage power lines. Emergency response efforts include Canadair aircraft, regional helicopters, and support from Slovenia.

In Abruzzo, significant fires have impacted Bisegna, where families were evacuated as flames threatened residential areas. Efforts are also concentrated on Monte Morrone and other fronts in the province of L'Aquila. Meanwhile, Emilia-Romagna has extended its orange alert due to over 220 fire incidents since July, which have destroyed nearly 220 hectares of land.

Other notable incidents include large-scale fires in Puglia, where nearly 5,000 hectares were burned between June and July, and in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola region, where fires have threatened water supplies and residential areas. Authorities emphasize that most forest fires are caused by human negligence, such as discarded cigarettes or improper tool use, and urge extreme caution in wooded areas.
