Wildfires across Italy threaten homes and disrupt rail services
Multiple wildfires have broken out across various regions in Italy, prompting significant emergency responses. In the Maremma region, specifically between Ansedonia and Orbetello, a large fire in the Patanella area threatened residential homes and the Roma–Pisa railway line. This caused temporary suspension of train services and significant delays for passengers. Firefighters utilized helicopters from both the Vigili del Fuoco and the Tuscany Region to contain the flames.
A second fire in Gavorrano at La Castellaccia was successfully extinguished, with crews remaining on-site for cleanup operations. In the Teramo province, firefighters worked through the night to manage several vegetation fires, including a four-hectare blaze in Castellalto and another in the Riserva dei Calanchi.
In Reggio Calabria, local police assisted in the emergency evacuation of an elderly resident in Trizzino after a fire threatened homes in the hilly area. Authorities note that increasingly dry vegetation and low rainfall are contributing to more intense fire behavior during the current season.
