Wildfires in Italy trigger emergency firefighting operations
Multiple wildfires have broken out in different regions of Italy, prompting intensive firefighting operations.
In the Montemonaco area, specifically near Isola San Biagio, a fire involving a large portion of vegetation was brought under control. Firefighters from Ascoli, Arquata del Tronto, and Amandola utilized an Eriksson S-64 helicopter to drop water on the rugged terrain. While the flames have been contained, crews remain on-site overnight to monitor for potential hotspots.
Simultaneously, a significant fire in Barano has caused alarm as flames spread toward hilly areas. The blaze, which began near Olmitello and the Maronti beach, was driven by strong winds toward Terzano, threatening local residences. Emergency teams have been working continuously to manage multiple fronts, including a previous emergency in Fiaiano. Helicopters are being deployed to assist ground crews in reaching difficult-to-access locations and to prevent the fire from reaching more homes and forested areas.
