Wildfires in Spain: Sierra Norte fire remains under surveillance

Authorities in Spain are managing two separate wildfire incidents in the regions of Guadalajara and La Rioja.

In the Sierra Norte of Guadalajara, the La Mierla fire continues to be monitored. Although the blaze has been controlled for over three weeks, it has not been fully extinguished six weeks after its start. The fire has impacted approximately 32,000 hectares, with 90 percent occurring within the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara Natural Park. Infocam reports that while the general evolution is favorable, active surveillance is required in areas like Condemios due to thick vegetation and organic matter that could cause small reactivations or hot spots.

In Villoslada de Cameros, a fire in the La Irruz area near the Sierra Cebollera Natural Park has been stabilized. The blaze affected an estimated 40 hectares. The incident required a significant response, including aerial resources and personnel from both La Rioja and Castilla y León, as well as the Ministry for Ecological Transition. Emergency services, including the Guardia Civil and Red Cross, were deployed to manage the situation.
