Wildfires near Konjic, Bosnia persist into fifth day
A wildfire in the canyon of the Rakitnica River near Konjic has been burning for five consecutive days. The rugged, steep terrain and lack of rain have made extinguishing the blaze difficult, and the fire remains active.
Firefighters from the Professional Fire Unit in Konjic, volunteer fire societies of Konjic and Neretvica, and workers from the local forestry company are engaged in continual suppression efforts. A separate fire at Rujište near Mostar is also ongoing, with crews from the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton operating to contain it.
Authorities report that the fires are in hard-to-reach areas, limiting full control, and no significant rainfall has been observed to aid the operation.
