Wildfires reported across Greece in Elis, Crete, and Chios
Multiple wildfires have broken out across different regions of Greece. In the Elis region, a fire in the Ploutochori area prompted a 112 emergency alert. Firefighting efforts in Elis include 40 firefighters, two EMODE pedestrian teams, 12 vehicles, and three aircraft.
A second fire was reported in the Gortyna area of Heraklion, Crete, involving 30 firefighters, two EMODE pedestrian teams, 8 vehicles, and one helicopter. The region was under extreme fire risk at the time.
On the island of Chios, a wildfire in the Viki area was brought under control following an intensive response from ground and aerial forces. Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the Chios fire; he was reportedly performing agricultural work in the area at the time the blaze began.
