Wildfires reported in Alatri and Ottaviano, Italy
Multiple wildfires have been reported in the Italian regions of Lazio and Campania. In Alatri, a forest fire destroyed over one hectare of vegetation, including pine trees and an olive grove. Investigators from the Carabinieri Forestali determined the blaze was caused accidentally by a man burning a pile of plant debris, which then spread to the surrounding area. The individual has been reported to judicial authorities for the suspected crime of negligent forest fire.
In Ottaviano, a large fire broke out at a nursery near the local cemetery. The intense smoke prompted the Mayor, Ferdinando Federico, to issue a precautionary ordinance advising residents to keep doors and windows closed to limit exposure to atmospheric pollution. Environmental authorities (Arpac) have been alerted to monitor air quality as emergency services work to control the flames.
