Wildfires strike Monti Lattari and Cilento regions in Italy

Multiple wildfires have broken out across the Monti Lattari and Cilento regions in Italy, prompting large-scale emergency responses involving firefighters, Civil Protection, and aerial firefighting assets such as Canadair planes and helicopters.

In the Monti Lattari area, fires were reported in the municipalities of Tramonti, Maiori, and Ravello. Investigators are examining the possibility of a coordinated arson attack, noting that the simultaneous ignition of multiple fronts in difficult-to-reach locations suggests a deliberate strategy to overwhelm emergency services.

In the Cilento region, two distinct fires reached heights of over three meters near residential areas. While aerial water drops helped contain the main blazes and prevented damage to homes, the fires destroyed several hectares of Mediterranean vegetation. Authorities are currently investigating whether these incidents were caused by arson or negligence.
