Wildfires Sweep Hill Areas in Powys, Wales, Prompt Multi‑Station Firefighter Effort
Firefighters from across Powys, including crews from Newtown, Presteigne and other stations in Mid and West Wales, have spent several days battling a series of hill and mountain wildfires. The blazes affected locations such as Rhinogydd near Harlech, Blaenavon and, most prominently, Hanter Hill near Burlingjobb close to Presteigne.
Crews report that the fire at Hanter Hill has been "massively reduced" but hotspots remain, requiring ongoing monitoring. The response has been praised for professionalism and teamwork, and retained firefighters highlighted the crucial support from employers that allows them to leave day jobs to protect local communities.
