Wildfires trigger major incidents in Wales and Sarawak
Multiple regions are currently managing significant wildfire and forest fire incidents. In Carmarthenshire, United Kingdom, a ‘Major Incident’ has been declared as a large-scale wildfire affects approximately 250 hectares of land near Llandovery. The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is coordinating a multi-agency response, which has included the evacuation of several homes as a precaution.
In Sarawak, Malaysia, firefighters are battling forest fires in Sri Aman and Daro. The blaze in Sri Aman has affected an estimated 80 hectares, with crews using portable pumps and hose lines to create firebreaks. A separate fire in Daro has impacted roughly 8 hectares.
To prevent localized haze, authorities in Miri, Sarawak, have deployed drones for daily monitoring, including at night. Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that the Department of Environment is using these drones to detect smoke and fire outbreaks at an early stage to ensure immediate action can be taken.
