Global wildfire and natural disaster incidents

Multiple regions across Europe and Southeast Asia are managing significant wildfire incidents. In Wales, a ‘Major Incident’ was declared in Carmarthenshire after a wildfire affected approximately 250 hectares near Llandovery, necessitating precautionary home evacuations. Simultaneously, in Sarawak, Malaysia, fires in Sri Aman and Daro impacted roughly 88 hectares combined, prompting the use of drones for smoke and fire detection to prevent haze.

By late August, the scale of wildfire activity expanded. In Spain, lightning-triggered fires in the Sierra Calderona Natural Park burned approximately 633 hectares, while extreme weather also caused flooding that led to over 1,000 evacuations. Serbia received international assistance through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, utilizing helicopters and crews from several countries to combat fires in Deliblatska Peščara Nature Park. In Indonesia, the situation escalated significantly as wildfires consumed over 200,000 hectares in Borneo, leading the President to deploy additional military battalions and helicopters to manage the resulting dense haze.
