Wildlife rescue efforts highlighted in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina
In Croatia, a young female mouflon was rescued within the Telašćica Nature Park on Dugi Otok after being found trapped between rocks. The newborn, only a week old and still possessing an umbilical cord, is receiving 24-hour care. A volunteer in Sali is currently providing the animal, named Mala Be, with fresh goat milk to ensure its survival. The goal is to eventually return the animal to its natural habitat once it is strong enough.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, an animal sanctuary on Mount Ozren near Doboj has become a refuge for orphaned wildlife. Two female bears, Maša and Ljubica, reside at the facility, which was established by Petar Tubić. Originally a paragliding club base, the site has evolved into a sanctuary for sick or displaced animals. The bears are cared for by Tubić and his family, receiving a diet primarily consisting of plant-based foods supplemented by treats to help them build fat reserves for winter.
