Wilker Leão fails to elect as federal deputy for Distrito Federal
Wilker Leão, a Novo Party candidate and influencer known for his controversial presence at the University of Brasília (UnB), failed to secure a seat as a federal deputy for the Distrito Federal. According to data from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Leão received fewer than 12,000 votes, finishing in 30th place in the race for the eight available seats.
Leão’s campaign was marked by significant friction with the university community. He was expelled from UnB in 2025 following disciplinary violations, including unauthorized recordings of professors, disrupting classes, and gender-based harassment of peers. During his campaign, he used the promise to “change” UnB as a central platform.
His candidacy was also shadowed by legal and physical confrontations. In August, a video surfaced showing Leão reacting physically to a student during a campus rally. Additionally, in late September, the Federal Police arrested Leão in flagrante after he and his supporters were accused of vandalizing public property by erasing paintings at the UnB Institute of Arts. While the Federal Court ordered his release the following day, the university has maintained its stance of repudiating the acts of violence and property damage.
