Wilker Leão political campaign and UnB controversy

Overview

Wilker Leão, a Novo party candidate and influencer, faced significant legal and social controversy during his campaign for federal deputy in the Distrito Federal. His candidacy was heavily defined by his contentious relationship with the University of Brasília (UnB), where he had been expelled in 2025 for disciplinary violations including unauthorized recordings and harassment.

In late September 2026, Leão was arrested by the Federal Police for vandalism after he and his supporters allegedly painted over murals at the UnB Institute of Arts. The incident involved confrontations with students and accusations of physical assault. Although a federal judge later granted him provisional liberty, the university formally condemned the acts as violence and destruction of public property.

Following these legal and physical confrontations, Leão failed to secure a seat in the election, receiving fewer than 12,000 votes and finishing 30th in the race.
