Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) and Thompson Rivers University (TRU) have signed a cooperative agreement titled ‘Yerí7 me7 sucwentwécw-kt, We will recognize one another’. Signed on October 20, 2026, the agreement establishes a framework for joint decision-making, academic programming, and research aimed at improving educational outcomes for T’exelcemc students.

The partnership acknowledges T’exelc’s inherent rights, jurisdiction, and cultural authority within its traditional territory. It builds upon a previous partnership agreement signed in 2024 and includes a joint implementation plan to put the formalized commitments into practice.

WLFN Chief Willie Sellars stated that the partnership creates opportunities to advance reconciliation and build a stronger future for the region. TRU President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Airini emphasized the commitment to removing barriers for student success and creating educational pathways that reflect the priorities of the Williams Lake First Nation.
