Wiltshire Traveller Site Shooting Leads to Murder Charge

A fatal shooting occurred on 2 August 2026 at a Traveller site in Calcutt, near Cricklade, Wiltshire. The victim was 36‑year‑old father Jimmy Ward, who suffered a gunshot wound and died at the scene.

Police arrested 35‑year‑old Shane Porter of Calcutt Park and charged him with murder and possession of a shotgun without a certificate. Eddie Porter, 74, and Tammy Brown, 42, both of Luton, were also charged with assisting an offender and possessing an unlicensed shotgun. Two other men were released on bail after being held on suspicion of assisting an offender. Wiltshire Police said a heightened presence would remain at the site while investigations continue. Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker expressed condolences to Ward’s family and thanked the local community for its support.
