Wiltshire Traveller site shooting investigation
Overview
On 2 August 2026 a 30‑year‑old man, identified as Jimmy Ward, was shot dead at a Traveller site in Calcutt, near Cricklade, Wiltshire. Wiltshire Police opened a murder investigation, cordoned the area and arrested a man in his 70s and a woman in her 40s on suspicion of firearm possession and assisting an offender.
A few days later police announced that 35‑year‑old Shane Porter had been charged with murder and illegal shotgun possession. Eddie Porter (74) and Tammy Brown (42) were also charged with assisting an offender and possessing an un‑licensed shotgun. Two other men were released on bail. Detectives said a heightened police presence would remain at the site while the investigation continued, and offered condolences to the victim’s family.
The case progressed from an initial murder inquiry and early arrests to formal charges against three individuals, illustrating the ongoing police response to the fatal shooting at the Traveller community.
