Wind energy advocates in Canada demand referendums

In Canada, the PCENY collective is calling for increased transparency and the use of municipal referendums to determine the social acceptability of wind energy projects. The group expressed concerns regarding potential wind farm developments on agricultural lands located near residential areas.

Spokesperson Janie Vachon-Robillard stated that for social acceptability to be valid, it must be confirmed through municipal referendums before projects proceed. Additionally, the collective is advocating for a revision of interim control regulations, arguing that current safety distances for new-generation industrial wind turbines are insufficient to protect public health.
