Open Monumentendag celebrates 40 years of heritage across the Netherlands and Belgium

The 40th edition of Open Monumentendag (Open Heritage Day) is taking place across various regions in the Netherlands and Belgium, centered on the theme ‘Resilient Heritage – in times of uncertainty’.

In Arnhem, the event celebrates the city's resilience through its architecture, offering free access to monuments such as the De Zoeten Laboratory. In Velsen, the Dudok-designed town hall is a highlight, allowing visitors to climb its clock tower. Other notable locations include the Westerkwartier, which features 53 sites including museums, churches, and mills, and the Zuidplas region, where visitors can explore the historical stone kilns and the Moordrecht village church.

In Hof van Twente, the celebration includes a 29-kilometer jubilee bicycle tour of castles and estates. In Grave, the Van Sasse pumping station is opening its doors to showcase water management history. In Belgium, the Heppen museum and the Heppense schans are offering guided tours and activities for families. The event provides a wide range of activities, including workshops, exhibitions, and historical tours, aimed at making heritage accessible to all ages.
