Wine consumption trends in Brazil highlight glass service flexibility
The wine market in Brazil is seeing a shift toward accessibility, with wine-by-the-glass becoming a significant way for consumers to explore new labels and manage costs. According to a survey by the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel), 65% of establishments that sell wine offer it by the glass.
While the standard 750ml bottle remains the most common format, the glass option allows consumers to experiment with different styles without the commitment or expense of a full bottle. In 80% of surveyed establishments, a glass of wine costs up to R$ 30, whereas bottles typically range from R$ 81 to R$ 120 in 43% of businesses.
Experts suggest that this format reduces barriers to entry for new drinkers, making wine more suitable for everyday occasions rather than just formal celebrations. Making wine knowledge more accessible is seen as a key factor in growing the consumer base.
