Wine industry expansion in Brazil

Overview

European and Brazilian wine producers continue to engage with a growing Brazilian market through various industry events. In Brasília, the Chez France Expérience event has showcased approximately 60 labels from nine European wineries, with a focus on French regions such as Champagne, Burgundy, and Bordeaux, alongside production from Greece. Simultaneously, producers from Portugal’s Trás-os-Montes region have participated in events in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro to expand commercial opportunities.

The ProWine São Paulo trade fair, which featured over 2,000 producers from 37 countries, serves as a key platform for negotiating with importers and distributors. This expansion follows a period of significant growth where Brazilian wine consumption rose by 41.9% to 440 million liters in 2025. By the first half of 2026, wine and sparkling wine sales in Brazil reached approximately R$ 9.8 billion, representing a 9% increase compared to the same period the previous year. Growth has been particularly notable in the ‘super premium’ segment, which saw a 15% increase in revenue.

Domestic industry development is increasingly focused on enotourism. In São Paulo, which accounts for 26% of national consumption, the government has promoted the ‘Rotas do Vinho de São Paulo’ guide to highlight regional production. In Minas Gerais, Vinícola Rio Manso is developing an 82-hectare operation in the Serra da Mantiqueira, including a partnership with Cave Geisse to produce a limited-edition Extra Brut sparkling wine.

Brazilian wine and sparkling wine exports reached US$ 6.79 million in the first half of 2026, a 23.73% increase compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 79 different countries. On the import side, Chile remains Brazil’s largest foreign supplier, followed by Argentina.
