Winnipeg police investigate series of pedestrian collisions

The Winnipeg Police Service is investigating a series of pedestrian-involved collisions that occurred throughout September and October. Authorities reported a total of eight collisions resulting in serious injuries and one fatality.

One fatal incident involved a woman in her 80s who was struck on September 29 while crossing the intersection of Roblin Boulevard and Hunterspoint Road. Police stated a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and struck her; she later died from her injuries on October 15. Another notable incident occurred on September 11, when a child was struck in a retail parking lot in the 1600 block of Kenaston Boulevard. The child was hospitalized in serious condition before being upgraded to stable.

Police noted that collisions have occurred in various settings, including marked crosswalks, controlled intersections, and parking lots. Officials are urging both motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution, recommending that drivers make eye contact with pedestrians and that pedestrians wear bright clothing during dark hours to increase visibility.
