Canadian pedestrian collision incidents
Overview
Authorities in Winnipeg and Ontario have reported multiple pedestrian-involved collisions resulting in serious injuries and fatalities.
In Winnipeg, police investigated a series of eight collisions occurring throughout September and October. These incidents included a child struck in a parking lot and a woman in her 80s who died after a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign. A subsequent fatal incident in Winnipeg involved a man in his 60s at the intersection of Main and Jarvis Avenue. Following this death, local officials and advocacy groups called for safety improvements such as lower speed limits and street narrowing.
In Ontario, three separate fatal incidents were reported. In Richmond Hill, a 27-year-old man died following a hit-and-run on Yonge Street. In East York, a traffic agent was killed after being struck by a vehicle near Millwood Road and Overlea Boulevard.
