Świnoujście moves ahead with new beach access road after €120 million plan dropped

The Szczecin and Świnoujście Port Authority is finalising a technical concept for a new road to the beach on the right bank of Świnoujście. The design will allow cars, tourist buses, municipal transit and campers, and includes a pedestrian‑bicycle path, bus stop, parking areas, street lighting, drainage, power and telecom installations. The concept, costing about 120,000 PLN, is slated for completion in 2026, after which a full investment cost of several tens of millions of zlotys will be estimated.

The project revives local demand after a previous €120‑million road scheme for the Warszów district was abandoned in February 2023. That earlier plan, backed by 85 % EU co‑funding, would have rebuilt five key road sections, a rail over‑pass, and added safety and cycling infrastructure. Its cancellation was noted by the General Directorate of National Roads and the city mayor, raising concerns about future port development.

The new road aims to restore direct access to the beach lost when a nearby LNG terminal road was closed, while also supporting upcoming port expansions such as the Przylądek Pomerania container terminal.
