Świnoujście plans maritime heritage revitalization at Basen Północny

The city of Świnoujście is developing a project to revitalize the Basen Północny area, aiming to transform it into a hub that combines sailing, maritime history, and education. The initiative focuses on preserving the heritage of the former Royal Shipyard (Stocznia Królewska).

Key components of the plan include the restoration of a water tower and the retrieval of the historic ferry ‘Gryfia’. The project also seeks to revive the nearly extinct profession of riveting. To support these efforts, the city intends to apply for approximately 3.5 million euros from Norwegian and EEA funds by the end of December.

Norwegian maritime heritage experts, including representatives from Bredalsholmen and the North Norwegian Ship Renovation Center, have participated in consultations to assist with the restoration of historic steel hulls using traditional techniques.
