Winter 2026-2027 weather forecasts predict temperature fluctuations
Weather forecasts for the 2026-2027 winter season indicate a period of significant atmospheric variability. According to meteorologist Fani Chatzigriva, the season is expected to feature sharp fluctuations, with periods of high temperatures followed by cold spells and heavy precipitation.
In Greece, specific interest is placed on December 2026 and January 2027. Projections suggest an increased probability of snowfall around the Christmas period, particularly between December 21 and 27. January 2027 may also see significant winter conditions, with potential snowfall at very low altitudes between January 17 and 20, and further cold incursions between January 23 and 25.
Data from the ECMWF suggests that the European winter will generally be warmer than average due to enhanced westerly flows bringing mild air masses from the Atlantic. While intense cold spells and brief episodes of snowfall are possible, they are not expected to be the dominant state for the season. The atmospheric circulation is being influenced by an anticyclonic structure over North America, which alters weather patterns across the Atlantic toward Europe.
