Wisconsin governor race field solidifies as candidates file for ballot

Ten candidates have submitted the required signatures to appear on the Wisconsin gubernatorial primary ballot, including one Republican, eight Democrats and one independent. The lone Republican, U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, carries endorsements from former President Donald Trump and the state GOP. The Democratic lineup features former lieutenant governor Mandela Barnes, state Rep. Francesca Hong, former Greater Milwaukee Committee president Joel Brennan, lieutenant governor Sara Rodriguez, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, state Sen. Kelda Roys, former state economic development secretary Missy Hughes and brewery owner Kirk Bangstad. A final review of signatures will be completed by the Elections Commission before certification on June 9 for the Aug. 11 primary.

A community‑hosted education forum is scheduled for June 11 at Bay View High School in Milwaukee, where seven of the Democratic candidates – Barnes, Brennan, Crowley, Hong, Hughes, Rodriguez and Roys – will field questions from local students on K‑12 education issues. The event, organized by Indivisible South Shore and Grassroots North Shore, will provide ASL interpretation and free childcare for attendees.
