Wisin announces Universidad del Perreo to study reggaeton culture
Puerto Rican artist Wisin has announced the creation of the Universidad del Perreo (UDP), an institution dedicated to the study, preservation, and promotion of reggaeton history and urban culture. The project aims to provide the genre with academic rigor and respect, moving its legacy from the streets to a formal educational setting.
The institution, which features the motto ‘The rhythm is the curriculum. The street is the campus,’ plans to offer courses such as History of Reggaeton, Applied Rhythm, and Flow Epistemology. It also intends to establish an Advanced Studies Center for Cadence, Dembow, and Urban Culture.
Already, the initiative has gained significant viral traction, with over 500,000 people visiting the official website. Several prominent artists and producers, including Jowell, Los Legendarios, Hyde El Quimico, and Jumbo El Que Produce Solo, have confirmed their participation in the project. A countdown on the UDP website points toward an official opening in early September 2026.
