Wix report shows AI has halved average website publication time
A new report from Wix, titled ‘State of Websites’, reveals that the average time required to publish a website has dropped by 50% over the last year, falling from eight days to four. This acceleration is largely attributed to the integration of artificial intelligence tools in the web creation process.
Industry-specific data shows significant improvements in speed: restaurant websites are now published in seven days compared to the previous thirteen, e-commerce sites have halved their build time from fourteen to seven days, and beauty and wellness businesses have reduced their timelines by 55%.
Despite the speed of AI, human involvement remains critical for brand identity. The report notes that 91% of users rewrite AI-generated copy and 69% replace stock images with personal photos to ensure a unique brand feel. Additionally, 93% of web designers report using AI, though experts suggest AI typically handles about 80% of the work, leaving the final 20% of fine-tuning to human creators.
The rise of AI is also lowering barriers for solo entrepreneurs, allowing them to manage coding, marketing, and customer service with fewer resources, though this shifts the competitive advantage toward those with deep industry knowledge.
