Wizards of the Coast reveals details for D&D World of Warcraft book

Wizards of the Coast has shared new details regarding the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft expansion, scheduled for release on November 17. The 288-page book aims to allow players to explore the world of Azeroth using tabletop role-playing mechanics rather than attempting to translate the video game's specific mechanics directly to dice.

Lead project designer James Wyatt explained that the goal is to provide a level of freedom not found in the MMO or RTS versions, allowing players to interact with any character and make decisions that deviate from the official lore. To achieve this, the developers are mapping existing World of Warcraft classes to the core classes found in the D&D Player's Handbook, supplemented by new subclasses, specializations, spells, and magic items.

While some classes like Warrior, Rogue, and Mage offer immediate translations, others such as Death Knight, Demon Hunter, and Shaman require more significant mechanical adaptations to fit the D&D system. The expansion will also include new species, monsters, dungeons, and faction renown systems.
