Wizz Air opens Madrid and Valencia bases, adds 16 new routes in Spain

Wizz Air will establish two permanent bases in Spain – at Madrid‑Barajas and Valencia airports – from November 2026. Four Airbus A321neo aircraft will be stationed permanently, creating more than 150 direct jobs for pilots and cabin crew and generating a broader economic impact on airport services, tourism and hospitality.

The expansion adds 16 new routes, including 11 domestic connections (e.g., Madrid‑Asturias, Valencia‑Santiago de Compostela, Valencia‑Bilbao) and five international services (e.g., Valencia‑Brașov, Valencia‑Naples). Existing routes such as Valencia‑Milan will see frequencies doubled. A further three low‑cost routes from Asturias to London Luton, Madrid and Valencia will start in late October 2026.

CEO József Váradi emphasized that the move is part of a long‑term growth plan, not a reaction to Ryanair’s capacity cuts, and highlighted the airline’s aim to strengthen its position in one of Europe’s most dynamic markets.
