Wizz Air adds Oslo, Egypt routes, opens Pristina base, may shut Belgrade hub

Budapest-based Wizz Air will launch direct flights to Oslo from 25 October and to the Egyptian Red Sea resort Marsa Alam from 27 October. The airline will also increase frequency on seven existing routes, adding weekly extra flights to Bilbao, Tenerife, Keflavík, Thessaloniki, Hurghada, Sharm el‑Sheikh and Gizé. Tickets for the new services are already on sale.

In November, Wizz Air will open a new operational base at Pristina International Airport in Kosovo, stationing a 239‑seat Airbus and creating about 40 jobs. The expansion adds three new routes – Brussels‑Charleroi, Karlsruhe/Baden‑Baden and Basel‑Mulhouse – and tightens Dortmund services, bringing the Pristina network to nine routes serving six countries and delivering roughly half a million additional seats each year.

Meanwhile, a regulatory dispute in Serbia may force the airline to close its Belgrade base. New Serbian aviation rules require foreign carriers to obtain permits from the Civil Aviation Directorate for all flights operating in Serbia. If an agreement is not reached, Wizz Air could cease Belgrade operations as early as November, with a final decision expected in September.
