Wizz Air 2026 expansion adds Palermo‑Tirana, Turin base

Entities: Wizz Air · Pristina · Kosovo · Lamezia Terme Airport · Sofia

Overview

In early July 2026 Wizz Air widened its summer schedule, adding Basel flights from Tuzla, launching a weekly Paris‑Beauvais service and stationing an eighth A321neo in Sofia for direct Budapest and Rhodes routes. A week later the carrier announced a direct Palermo‑Tirana service, three times weekly from 27 October 2026, with year‑round operation on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, aligned with a planned base at Palermo’s Falcone Borsellino Airport in August 2026.

On 22 July the airline unveiled new nonstop routes to Oslo (from 25 Oct) and the Egyptian Red Sea resort Marsa Alam (27 Oct), plus extra weekly frequencies on seven existing routes, including Bilbao, Tenerife, Keflavík, Thessaloniki, Hurghada, Sharm el‑Sheikh and Gizé.

On 26 July Wizz Air introduced a Turin Caselle–Lamezia Terme service, five flights per week from 25 Oct 2026, as part of a seventh Italian base expected to handle about one million passengers annually and create roughly 780 jobs.

A further milestone arrived on 27 July: Wizz Air opened an operational hub at Pristina International Airport, centered on a single A321neo and supported by a €2 million Kosovo government grant. The hub launches routes to Basel, Baden‑Baden and Brussels‑Charleroi, and adds a daily Berlin–Sofia flight starting 20 Sept 2026, priced from €31.99. These moves expand the carrier’s South‑East European footprint and bring the network to roughly 0.5 million additional seats annually.

Potential regulatory hurdles in Serbia could force the airline to abandon its Belgrade base as early as November if new permit requirements are not met, with a final decision expected in September.
