Wizz Air celebrates 20 years of flights in Romania at Târgu Mureș airport

Wizz Air marked its 20‑year presence in Romania on 15 July 2026 with a ceremony at the Transilvania International Airport in Târgu Mureș, the site of the airline’s inaugural Romanian flight in July 2006. The carrier highlighted a two‑decade record of nine operational bases, more than 235 routes from 14 Romanian airports, service to 83 destinations across 26 countries and a workforce of about 1,900 employees. Roughly 120 million passengers have flown with Wizz Air to and from Romania during this period.

Company officials, local and county authorities attended. Chief Commercial Officer Ian Malin said the milestone underscores Wizz Air’s long‑term commitment to affordable and reliable air travel for Romanian customers. Mureș County Council vice‑president Csibi Attila stressed the airport’s growing role as a regional tourism and business gateway and pledged continued cooperation.

The event also foreshadowed future growth, with the airline having recently reopened three bases (Bucharest Băneasa, Suceava and Târgu Mureș) and launched new services from Oradea, while maintaining a fleet of 41 aircraft stationed in Romania.
