Wizz Air launches new base at Palermo's Falcone‑Borsellino Airport with three A321neo and 18 routes

Wizz Air inaugurated an operating base at Palermo's Falcone‑Borsellino International Airport, initially stationing two Airbus A321neo aircraft. The first flight departed for Turin, and the airline will also serve Milan‑Malpensa, Bologna, Venice, Tel Aviv and Sharm el‑Sheikh. A third A321neo will be added on 6 September 2026, allowing the carrier to open six new direct connections to Rome‑Fiumicino, Barcelona, Marrakech, Dortmund, Pisa and Prague. In total the base will operate 18 routes to 13 countries, offering more than 1.3 million seats in 2026, with exclusive services to Prague, Marrakech and Dortmund.

The expansion is expected to generate about 120 direct jobs and support over 1,050 indirect jobs in tourism, services and logistics, boosting the regional economy. Wizz Air will become the second‑largest airline at the airport with an estimated 16 % market share, consolidating its presence in Sicily.

The opening ceremony was attended by Palermo mayor Roberto Lagalla, alongside Wizz Air executives Ian Malin and Gesap CEO Gianfranco Battisti.
