Wizz Air to open three new bases in Spain

Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air is expanding its presence in Spain by establishing a local subsidiary and opening three new operational bases. The company has registered its Spanish headquarters in Madrid, following a business model previously adopted by competitors Ryanair and easyJet.

The expansion includes the opening of bases in Valencia and Madrid in early November, followed by a third base in Santiago de Compostela in December. These bases will allow the airline to station aircraft and crews locally, enabling the operation of domestic routes and more efficient flight rotations.

The move is expected to create approximately 480 direct jobs, with roughly 160 hires planned for each airport, including pilots, cabin crew, ground staff, and maintenance personnel. This expansion is anticipated to increase competition within the Spanish aviation market and exert downward pressure on domestic flight prices.
