Wolf attacks livestock in Montana Province, Bulgaria

A series of predator attacks, suspected to be caused by a wolf, has caused alarm among residents and livestock farmers in several villages within the Montana Province of Bulgaria.

In the village of Bezdenitsa, local farmer Veselin Hristov reported that one of his dogs was found dead with severe wounds, while another disappeared. Reports indicate that three dogs have been attacked or have gone missing in the village alone, and there are also reports of missing goats. Similar incidents have been noted in the neighboring village of Dolno Tserovene, where two dogs were reportedly attacked several weeks ago.

Local hunters have stated they cannot take independent action against the predator due to legal restrictions. Mikhail Mihaylov, a representative of the Bezdenitsa hunting association, emphasized that they must operate according to the Law on Hunting, noting that organizing a hunt requires specific official permits. While farmers are increasing vigilance around their shelters, they currently do not believe there is an immediate danger to humans.
