Wolf identified near Schluchsee after fatal injuries

Authorities in Baden-Württemberg have identified a deceased male wolf found near Schluchsee as GW1129m, a resident of the area. The animal was discovered with severe injuries and was euthanized to prevent further suffering.

Investigations by the Ministry of Agriculture in Stuttgart revealed complex fractures in the lumbar spine. While a definitive cause of death could not be confirmed, officials stated that a traffic accident involving the nearby B500 road is highly probable. The ministry confirmed that the injuries were not caused by a gunshot.

Following the death of this wolf, only five resident adult wolves, along with at least one pup, remain in the southwestern region. Data from the federal wolf documentation center indicates that eight wolves in Baden-Württemberg have died in traffic accidents between 1991 and 2026.
