Wolf fatalities in Germany due to vehicle collisions

Overview

Recent reports indicate a series of wolf deaths in Germany resulting from traffic accidents. In Baden-Württemberg, a male wolf identified as GW1129m was found near Schluchsee with severe lumbar spine fractures; authorities stated a traffic accident involving the B500 road was “highly probable.” This death leaves only five resident adult wolves and at least one pup in the southwestern region.

In the Neustadt/WN district, three additional wolves—a young female and two young males—were killed in vehicle collisions within a single week on the B470 federal highway and the NEW 21 district road near Manteler Forst. Officials have collected DNA samples from these carcasses to determine if they belong to the local pack, which has confirmed offspring for the 2025/26 monitoring year.
