Wolfgang Katzian defends SPÖ leader Andreas Babler

Wolfgang Katzian, head of the Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB), has expressed support for SPÖ chairman Andreas Babler, dismissing recent debates regarding leadership changes. Katzian stated that replacing individuals would not improve polling numbers and argued that the discussion regarding Babler’s position should be considered concluded, noting that Babler was re-elected only six months ago.

On economic and social policy, Katzian advocated for increasing the insolvency compensation fund and called for renewed margin caps on energy companies. He emphasized that the SPÖ should focus on improving the living conditions of citizens to regain credibility. Katzian also rejected suggestions that the party's platform is too left-leaning, particularly regarding migration, asserting that the cost of living remains the most critical issue for voters.
